- Thames Valley Round 3
The Twelve and unders had an exciting time at The Chiltern Pools last Saturday evening for the B final of the Thames Valley junior league. The competition was tough against good squads from Wycombe, Chesham, Amersham and Bracknell, but the youngsters were determined to do well. The squad consisted of some of the more regular swimmers as well as a few that were entering their first competition. Overall the squad put in a good performance with some very close finishes amongst the individual swimmers. Some promising times were achieved by many of the squad, with PBs being bettered in many cases.
Highlight of the event was the teams’ first win in the competition when the 9 year old boys medley relay team won convincingly, to the roof raising roars from the parents and supporters in the gallery. With more practice and the continued commitment from all the squad, we look forward to an even better championship next year!
- 12-13 Feb - Harrow and Wycombe Meets
A Great Weekend of Medals
Slough and Eton Dolphins swimming club had a successful weekend with swimmers taking part in major competitions at both Wycombe and Barnet. At Barnet Copthall Pool the swimmers delivered a brilliant team performance with 7 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals being won and all swimmers obtained personal best times. The Coaches Paul, David and Alison were particularly pleased with Nimath Ukkash who won the Top 10 Year Old Boy Trophy. This award was presented by Mark Spackman who swam for the UK in the Olympic Games in 2000.
At Wycombe our swimmers entered a level 1 meet which attracted some of the most promising swimmers from around the country. Representatives from as far afield as Devon, Wales and the West Midlands were all hoping to make their mark and achieve national times. The team put in gutsy performances with 9 year old Dylan Philpott doing particularly well in his first ever gala in a 50m pool picking up two silver and two bronze medals. Ed Williams also picked up 2 silvers in the 50m and 100m Breastroke.
Head Coach Paul Hurley was overjoyed with the weekends results saying “This shows that our swimmers are really making some big steps, we just need a few more new club members to build the squad and really put us on the map”.
Slough and Eton Dolphin Swimming Club swim regularly at Montem pool, Eton college and Beechwood school, with new swimmers able to try out on Monday evenings. Anyone interested in joining the Dolphins should contact the club via their website www.sloughdolphinsc.org.uk.
