- 23/24 January - Windsor Open Meet
SEDSC sent a team of swimmers to the Maidenhead Magnet Pool at the end of January to compete in the Windsor level 1 open meet. A number of swimmers achieved excellent Personal Best times in a variety of events. Amongst the swimmers was an Eton boy who achieved a national qualifying time in 50 freestyle and won the event. Unfortunately, he will not be around in the summer to compete.
Josh Rank competed in a number of events over the weekend and performed exceptionally well in the 400 freestyle taking off another 4 seconds from his previous personal best time. Josh has been rapidly developing in this event having already taken nearly 20 seconds off since the beginning of the season. Josh also swam personal bests in the other events including the 200 Breast stroke and 100 freestyle.
Alastair Barber, Jamie Hertel, Leah Cohen, Craig Stevens, Robert Walk, Olivia Kelly and Nicole Stevens all achieved county qualifying times at the event. Monty Lyman, Finn Nuget, Alister Webber, Elliot Manley, Daniel Stevens, Lorcan Rowley, Luke Birch, Abi Fricker and Edward Williams all performed well at the meet with some encouraging swims.
The team adopted a Hawaiian theme, photos can been seen on the SEDSC facebook group.
- 9 January - Maidenhead Lions Swimarathon
SEDSC entered 3 teams in this years swimarathon but unfortunately, due to the weather and difficulties driving, not all swimmers made it to the event so only 2 teams swam. The Masters team comprised Vic Moore (captain), Hayley Moore, Clair Harris, Catherine Miller, Kelvin Abbott, Phil Wege and honorary master for the night, Charlotte Pearl. They really entered into the spirit of the event, Treasurer Kelvin was in charge of lap counting and Hayley was wanting to swim extra laps. They surpassed themselves achieving 85x50m in the 55 minute period. The second team were attempting to get the day's record for most 50m laps swum. However, Craig Stevens (captain), Dan Stevens, Alastair Barber, Josh Rank and Ed Williams didn't quite make it, the lack of training due to the snow seemed to take its toll. Once the boys realised that the target of 107 x 50m was outside their grasp this year, they decided to have fun, interspersing their sprint 50m freestyle laps with the occasional fly and backstroke lap. However in the last few laps when they realised they still had a few minutes to go and could possibly reach the magic 100, they pulled out some fantastic sprints to end the 55 minutes with a total of 96 x 50m laps between them. A fantastic effort by all. Well done.
- 19,20 December - Bournemouth Open Meet
Slough and Eton Dolphins travel to their south coast relatives to pick up the honours.
Slough and Eton Dolphins attended the Bournemouth Dolphins Christmas Meet where a number of their swimmers picked up medals. Leah Cohen got four gold medals and a silver in her events and made significant improvement to her recent times. Leah trains over seven times a week and demonstrated that rewards in competitions come with work in the pool. Leah is now looking forward to the rest of the season and assured her coach that she would work even harder in the pool in the New Year. Other medalists included Ed Williams. Ed picked up three silver medals. Coach Paul Hurley was impressed with Ed's form in the 200 Breast and IM highlighting again the importance of solid training. Craig Stevens was also in fine form picking up two silver medals and three bronze. Craig like Leah, has vowed to work harder in the coming months to build upon on this solid performance. Abigail Fricker showed her desire by moving within inches of her Regional Qualification time on her 200 IM and by making a massive forty second personal best in her 400 Freestyle event. Josh Rank finished off a fantastic three months of training with some awesome swims. Josh as been one of the hidden talents at Slough and Eton since the start of the current campaign. In training and competition , Josh has inspired other swimmers. He has developed a pre race protocol which combines swimming with an element of yoga and mental preparation. Other swimmers thought that he was 'A Fish on the end of a line' . Despite this banter Josh achieved a number of PBs over the weekend the most significant was in the 400 Freestyle, inside his previous time by sixteen seconds.
