SEDSC ASA South East Regionional Championships 2006

Slough and Dolphin Swimming Club were well represented by 12 swimmers at the South East Region ASA summer championships. The swimmers Daniella Ashfield (12), Kathryn Bull(11), Leah Cohen(12), James Crowther(14), Marley Farrell(12), Marianna Geany(11), Harry Good(10), Sophie Jobson(10), Nia Kennedy(11), Ashleigh Lloyd(14) Edward Williams(10) and Alexandra Wiseman (12) all performed brilliantly.

Last season SEDSC raced in 8 finals and had 3 medal swims, this had been our most successful championship performance ever. However, more was to come and 2006 has been even more successful.

Marley performed outstandingly well, he won gold in 1500m freestyle, silver in both the 200m medley and 200m Fly. In a change to the rules the competition was heat declared winner. If finals were run as in previous years he would have made three more finals 5th in the 200m free and 7th in both the 400m free and medley. Overall, Marley was 4th in the BAGCAT aggregate competition a fantastic accomplishment.

Edward swam superbly in the 100m breaststroke, finishing in third place for the bronze medal. Just 0.08 seconds behind in 5th was Harry. Harry came 9th overall in the BAGCAT aggregate competition. Harry would have qualified for the final, in 5th place, in 200m free. He was also 5th in the 400m medley and 7th in the 100m Free.

Ashleigh made an excellent performance and took silver in the 200m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and bronze in the 100m Fly. She gained a national qualifying time in the 100m Backstroke but unfortunately will miss the competition due to injury.

Sophie was, until recently, training under a different system in Australia and consequently only had one qualifying time. However in her only event, the 200m medley she swam a huge personal best time to earn a silver medal.

A mention must be given to the girls 11/13 yrs freestyle relay team who came 12th overall and the medley relay team which came 13th. The freestyle team comprised of three 12 year olds, Leah, Daniella and Alexandra plus an 11 year old, Kathryn. Kathryn was replaced by Nia who is also 11 in the medley team. a great achievement.

A total of 8 medals and many personal bests - Well done to all the swimmers
