COACH'S REPORT
It has been the most successful period in the history of Slough and Eton Dolphin swimming Club since I took over as coach. We have managed to win the Thames Valley Junior League for the first time in the clubs history. In the recent county championships we managed to win 78 medals more than double our best previous effort, with a number of new county age group records as well. Then we sent a huge group of swimmers to train in Lanzarote, a huge thank you to Ian and Helen Kennedy and Barbara Hazelwood who worked tirelessly to administrate the trip.
The success we are now achieving bodes well for the future, it was particularly pleasing to win the Thames Valley junior league and break Windsors impressive record of winning it 6 years in a row. It was a close fought gala and we ended up by winning with only a 4 point cushion. So the hard work starts now to try to retain this trophy.
The county championships were very impressive. Not only because of the good results but swimmer attitude was far better this year. People from many other clubs noticed and commented on how well dressed, behaved and focused the Slough swimmers are. The only small area for continued improvement is that swimmers must remember to report to the coach before and after every race. Most did so most of the time, so lets improve on this in future galas.
The Lanzarote trip was a stunning success. Bruce did a fantastic job of getting it all on camera including underwater footage. We will continue to use the underwater camera in training sessions to help the swimmers with stroke development. The swimmers all applied themselves superbly to the training sessions and we will no doubt try to organise further training camps abroad. It would be great if future trips are as well supported as the first one.
As we move into new times at Montem where we are not allowed access to poolside I suggest that parents who need to talk to me do so before or at the end of sessions, it is very disruptive if I walk across to the changing village during training. Also queries can be directed through the club website, my email direct ( swimcoachpaul@aol.com) or the club desk on Monday evenings.
Well done everyone and keep up the good work.
Paul
