Summary of the County Championships

Slough and Eton Dolphin SC enjoyed good success in this years Berkshire & South Bucks County Championships with twenty nine club swimmers competing in 187 heats of the scheduled County championship programme of events.

Emma Croker, Julia Jemielity, Kymberley Charlett and Oscar Kowalski experienced competing at County Champs for the very first time in the girls and boys 10 Year age group Championships.

Emma completed nine events, consistently improved on PBs, with her highest placed finish being a credible 6th place in the 50 Breast while finishing seventeenth overall in the BAGCAT age group. Kymberley completed eleven events, was as equally impressive with her highest placed finishes being 5th in the 100 Back, 6th in the 200 Back & 100 Breast and 7th place in the 200 Breast while finishing tenth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Julia completed nine events, performing well above expectations, with her highest placed finishes being 1st in the 100 Free, 2nd in the 100 Back, 200 Back & 50 Free, 3rd in the 50 Breast, 4th in the 50 Back & 400 Free, 5th in the 100 IM and 6th in the 200 Free while finishing fourth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Oscar who has only been training with the club for six months, completed nine events and showcased his future potential by finishing 1st in the 50 Back, 2nd in the 100 Back, 3rd in the 200 Back & 200 IM, 4th in the 50 Fly, 100 Free & 200 Free, 5th in the 100 IM and 7th in the 50 Free finishing third overall in the BAGCAT age group.

The girls and boys 11 Year age group was saw Jade Pithers, Molly Griffiths and Harry Good compete.

Jade, firmly settled having joined dolphins this time last year, completed sixteen events with her highest place finishes being 1st in the 200 Fly, 2nd in the 100 Fly, 400 Free & 800 Free, 3rd in the 100 Breast, 4th in the 200 Back & 200 IM, 5th in the 50 Back, 50 Free & 100 Free and 6th in the 200 Free & 100 IM while finishing third overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Molly completed six events, with her highest place finishes being 6th in the 50 Back, 100 Back & 100 Free and 7th in the 400 Free while finishing twelfth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Harry completed thirteen events, with his highest place finishes being 1st in the 50 Back, 100 Back, 200 Back, 50 Breast, 100 Breast, 200 Breast & 100 IM, 2nd in the 50 Fly, 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free & 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 Fly while finishing second overall in the BAGCAT age group.

The girls and boys 12 Year age group was saw Katrina Chorley, Sophie Jobson, Charlie Messenger and Edward Williams compete.

Katrina completed six events, in what was a strong age group, had a highest place finish of 14th in the 50 Breast while finishing twenty-eighth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Sophie, who’s championships was disrupted through illness, competed in six events with her highest place finishes being 7th in the 50 Fly,50 Free & 800 Free while finishing twentieth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Charlie completed nine events, with his highest place finishes being 3rd in the 200 Fly, 4th in the 50 Fly, 6th in the 100 Fly, 7th in the 100 Free and 8th in the 100 IM finishing ninth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Edward completed fourteen events, with his highest place finishes being 4th in the 50 Breast, 100 Breast, 5th in the 50 Fly, 6th in the 400 IM, 7th in the 400 Free and 8th in the 200 Back, 200 Breast & 100 Free while finishing eighth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

The girls and boys 13 Year age group saw Daniella Ashfield, Marianna Geany and Alistair Barber compete.

Daniella completed five events, with her highest place finish being 7th in the 200 Back finishing thirteenth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

Marianna completed twelve events, with her highest place finishes being 4th in the 50 Free, 5th in the 100 Free, 6th in the 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 7th in the 100 IM and 8th in the 50 Back, 100 Breast & 200 IM while finishing eighth overall in the BAGCAT age group. Marianna also made it into the Girls 50m Freestyle 14 & under final qualifying 8th fastest. In the final itself, Marianna performed exceptionally, finishing 5th place while narrowly missing out on 3rd and 4th place by a few hundredths of a second.

Alistair completed four events, with his highest place finish being 4th in the 50 Fly finishing thirteenth overall in the BAGCAT age group.

The girls and boys 14 Year age group saw Jordan Hobbs, Leah Cohen, Craig Stevens, George Good and Marley Farrell compete.

With no BAGCAT age group for girls from 14 years of age Jordan completed two events, with her highest place finish being 8th in the 50 Back. Leah completed nine events, with her highest place finishes being 3rd in the 100 Free, 4th in the 50 Breast, 5th in the 200 Breast and 6th in the 100 Breast.

Craig competing at County Champs for the very first time completed five events, with his highest place finishes being 6th in the 50 Back and 8th in the 100 Back finishing eighteenth overall in the BAGCAT age group. George also competing at County Champs for the very first time completed four events, with his highest place finish being 7th in the 200 Breast while finishing twelfth overall in the BAGCAT age group. Given the continued development of both these swimmers they should both be commended for their remarkable efforts.

Marley completed thirteen events and had by far his most successful County Championships to date. His highest place finishes were 1st in the 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 200 Fly, 100 IM setting a new county record in the process & 200 IM, 2nd in the 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free and 4th in the 200 Breast finishing second overall in the BAGCAT age group by the narrowest of margins.

Marley also qualified for eight 14 & under Junior Finals. He finished first in the 50 back Junior Final and third overall in the 50 back Junior Championship; pull out of the 100 back Junior Final but finished eighth overall in the 100 back Junior Championship; first in the 50 Breast Junior Final and first overall in the 50 Breast Junior Championship; second in the 100 Breast Junior Final and second overall in the 100 Breast Junior Championship; first in the 50 fly Junior Final and third overall 50 fly Junior Championship; second in the 100 fly Junior Final and third overall 100 fly Junior Championship; third in the 50 free Junior Final and ninth overall 50 free Junior Championship; and fifth in the 100 free Junior Final and tenth overall 100 free Junior Championship.

While in the other Junior Championship events Marley finished eight in the 200 Breast, third in the 200 IM, third in the 200 Fly and ninth in the 200 Free.


The girls and boys 15 Year age group was saw Juliette Ives, Tara Lacey and Monty Lyman compete. Juliette competed in one events, the 100 Back in which she finished thirteenth in her age group. Tara competed in two events, the 50 Fly and the 200 Free finishing twelfth in the 50 Fly and twentieth in the 200 Free. Monty competed in one events, the 50 Free in which he finished eighteenth in his age group.

The girls and boys 16 Year age group was saw Rachel Ford and James Crowther compete. Rachel competed in five events, her highest finish being 9th in the 100 Fly. James competed in five events, with his highest finishes being 5th in the 50 Fly and 8th in the 100 IM.

In the 17 Year and over age group Hannah Bennett competed in three events. Hannah finished 4th in the 50 Back and 5th place in the 100 Back & 200 Back.

Hayley Moore also competing in the 17 Year and over age group competed in six events finishing 4th in the 100 Breast, 100 Free and 100 IM, 5th in the 50 Free and 6th in the 50 Back. Hayley also qualified for the Girls 15 & over 50 Breastroke. In the final she finished in fifth place.

In the team relays, the club was represented by boys and girls 11 and under for both the freestyle and medley relay. While the Youth Girls competed in the medley and freestyle relays.

The Girls 11 and Under 4x50 Medley Team consisting of Kym, Emma, Jade and Julia finished in 4th place overall. The Boys 11 and Under 4x50 Medley Team consisting of Oskar, Harry, Connor and Phin in what was a fantastically contested race, finished in 1st Place in their heat and 1st Place overall. The Girls 11 and Under 4x50 Freestyle Team consisting of Molly, Julia,Kym and Jade finished in 3rd place overall. The Boys 11 and Under 4x50 Freestyle Team consisting of Harry, Oskar, Connor and Phin finished in 2nd place overall. The Youth Girls 4x100 Freestyle Team finished 9th place overall while the 4x100 Medley Team finished 10th Place overall. Well Done to Hannah, Leah, Tara and Rachel.

The final medal tally was 21 Gold, 23 Silver and 16 bronze.

Reflecting on the performances of all the swimmers Head Coach Paul Lloyd said “The team ethic at this years county champs was outstanding. The swimmers were looked after superbly by Andy, Jane and Katarina so a big thank you to all three. It was very noticeable how well attired the team were. They were also excellently behaved. Slough swimmers all executed the starts and turns superbly which is testament to the efforts put in during training. Overall Slough top boy was Marley and top girl Julia. "
